December 9, 2015 - Here's an elected official from Oklahoma that understands transportation needs and can teach Texas legislators and leaders a thing or two.



There is sometimes the sense that we all will be able to stay in our own vehicles if we just keep widening roads, said Victoria Caldwell, city councilwoman and a member of Regional Transit Dialogue of local community leaders.
"There comes a point where there is no room to widen anymore," Caldwell said. "The section of I-35, for example, going south of Oklahoma City from downtown to Norman — there is no more room."

Increasing population density has led six cities to form a Regional Transit Authority with the focus of building mass transit-oriented development within the next 25 years.

Mayor Charles Lamb was one of six mayors this week to sign an historic agreement in Oklahoma City to create a Regional Transit Authority (RTA) for the region. Mayors from the six cities represented Edmond, Oklahoma City, Norman, Moore, Midwest City and Del City.
