After a lawsuit and several years of negotiations with a tiny north Texas city, BNSF Railway and Gunter Texas officials shook hands and held a groundbreaking ceremony for Logistics Center North Dallas, a complex that will serve the fast-growing region.

The rail business park will encompass 944 acres of land in this city of 2,500, located in Grayson county, some 50 miles north of Dallas.

The site, near State Highway 289, will be a multi-customer, multi-commodity industrial park, according to BNSF, and offer direct rail service. The logistics park template, that BNSF has established in other markets, should shave off nine to 12 months of development time for prospective users.

.“Gunter is well-placed in one of the fastest‑growing corridors in the country, and this new logistics center positions our customers to take full advantage of that momentum,” Scot Bates, BNSF assistant vice president of economic development and real estate, said. “By offering direct rail service and a ready‑to‑build site, we’re helping customers expand their supply chain reach faster and more efficiently.”

BNSF reached a deal with the city of Gunter to keep the industrial park at a safe distance from residential neighborhoods after  homeowners were concerned about increased congestion.

Gunter Mayor Karen Souther, Grayson County Judge Bruce Dawsey, along with community leaders and other public-private partners attended the groundbreaking ceremony.  "We negotiated a win-win for both sides... I think that is a huge accomplishment," said Gunter Mayor Souther in a previous statement.

The first phase of Logistics Center North Dallas will take about 19 months to build out.

The property is alongside the BNSF Madill subdivision that runs from Irving, Dallas and Carrollton through Frisco, Celina and Prosper to Sherman and Denison. The sub continues across the Oklahoma state line and northward to Tulsa.
