President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promised to revamp passenger train services in Mexico, which will create several challenges for the infrastructure, communications and transportation ministry (SICT).

BNamericas spoke with the ministry's rail and multimodal development chief, Manuel Gómez Parra, about the announcement and a possible timeline for the passenger rail network.

Gómez also talked about the calendar for upcoming projects, security challenges, and rights-of-way acquisitions.
