Mexico presents an opportunity for companies looking to export refined products out of Houston, but a lack of clarity has limited the number of participants willing to be the among the first to the market.
Houston-based Jefferson Energy Cos. is one of those looking to move into that market, though. It’s considering using its Beaumont terminal as an origin point for exports bound to Mexico, said Frank Rodriguez, the company’s vice president of commercial development.
The Beaumont terminal has access to three major rail lines: Kansas City Southern, Union Pacific and BNSF. That puts it in a good position to access refined products from elsewhere and send them into Mexico, said Rodriguez, who was speaking at the Houston Business Journal’s Energy Infrastructure Power Breakfast Oct. 18.
