A Texas short line railroad is one of the recipients of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association's (ASLRRA) 2020 President's Safety Award.
Rio Valley Switching Company ("RVSC") is known in the region as the “Valley Railroad”, operating 55 miles from Harlingen west to Mission and Edinburg and also serves the McAllen Foreign Trade Zone. It also extends 11 miles Northwest to Santa Rosa.
The ASLRRA award will be presented "virtually" during the October 5-9 convention, held online this year because of the China Coronavirus pandemic.

The awards recognize member short line railroads that achieved the lowest accident frequency rate based on 2019 Federal Railroad Administration data.

Valley Railroad interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad in Harlingen. RVSC is located within 100 miles of a majority of Mexico's emerging Burgos Basin, the extension of the Eagle Ford Shale in to Mexico.
