New Amtrak Thruway Shuttle Service in Maricopa Connecting Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle Passengers to Phoenix and Tempe

Beginning Monday, May 1, Amtrak will begin operating a Thruway bus connecting service in Maricopa, Ariz. for passengers traveling on the Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle service wanting to travel to Tempe and Phoenix, Ariz. area. Stagecoach Express will operate the to/from shuttle service on the schedule days the Sunset Limited operates through Maricopa.


Thruway stops include:
Tempe –
• Macayo’s Depot Cantina, 300 South Ash Avenue
Phoenix –
• Phoenix (Metro Center Transit Station), 9617 North Metro Parkway West
• Phoenix Airport, 3400 East Sky Harbor Blvd., Terminal 2 - Outside Door 8 - Intercity Shuttle Island (shuttle staff available 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.


In addition to the new service, ridership on the dedicated Thruway bus service between Oklahoma City and Newton / Wichita Kansas continues to grow.

Amtrak Thruway Bus Connections  enable Amtrak passengers to make nightly connections between Amtrak Trains 3 & 4, the Southwest Chief, at Newton, Kan., and Amtrak Trains 821 & 822, the Heartland Flyer, at Oklahoma City, via the Wichita, Kan., bus station currently at 312 South Broadway St.

The schedules are bookable via Amtrak.com, smartphone apps or by calling 800-USA-RAIL, open Wichita to more than 500 Amtrak destinations in 46 states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian Provinces. This Thruway Bus Connection is one of only two such connections between Amtrak routes in the western U.S.

Same-day travel to popular Midwestern destinations such as Kansas City and Chicago or Texas destinations such as Fort Worth and San Antonio is now possible with the service operated by Village Tours of Wichita, under contract with Amtrak.
