Rail opponents tried and failed for the third time since 1985 to take Austin's sub-urban city of Leadner out of the regional rail service business.
This past weekend Leander voters chose to stay as a membership city with Capital Metro, with voters approving by 59%.
Another exit election from CapMetro can not be placed on a ballot for the next five years.
CapMetro is adding additional rail capacity between its Lakeline Station in Northwest Austin and the Leander station so there can be more frequent trains along the 32 mile Red Line. Between the stations there is only single-track running, meaning trains are less frequent. The expansion project is expected to be completed by this fall with more train service expected.
Leander is now eligible for over $9 million in CapMetro funds for transit-supportive infrastructure projects now that voters sealed the deal.
Red Line trains offer free-wifi and have bike racks.
