You're invited to join Texas Rail Advocates as we explore the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, Texas on Saturday August 15th at 9:00 am.

It's part of TRA's new quarterly Special Event outreach program to build interest in all aspects of railroading and the rail industry.

The Frisco museum is comprised of nearly 14 acres transformed into a world class museum of rail transportation.

The Museum of the American Railroad will have a special outdoor walking tour of its rolling stock for TRA participants, led by their museum's in-house historians, and an indoor TrainTopia model train exhibit.

Combined cost for the tour and exhibit is $ 18.00 for adults and $ 10.00 for children 3-12, and proceeds go to support the museum.

Following the outdoor and indoor tour you are welcome to join Texas Rail Advocates supporters at Babes Chicken Dinner House Restaurant, next door to the Museum, and continue the train talk. 

Here's some information you need to know:

Duration & Distance: The outdoor tour is up to a mile round-trip and lasts approximately 1 hour.

Tour Content: The tour is led by their in-house historians, so be ready to listen for great history and anecdotes throughout the 1-hour program. Content includes history of the Museum, construction plans, and highlights of select pieces in the historic rolling stock collection, including a brief walk-through of select pieces of equipment. Climbing on the exterior of equipment is not permitted.

Terrain: Uneven surfaces and elevation changes are involved. Must be able to walk on and over railroad tracks at the beginning and start of the tour. There are concrete platforms located at the exhibition area.  Please e-mail with questions on accessibility.

The railyard gets hot quickly due to the granite ballast, concrete, and steel equipment. Surface temperatures in summer can exceed 120 degrees. You must arrive hydrated and bring water, sunscreen/hat, sunglasses, etc. for summer tours & warmer months. Thanks!

Age: Due to duration and walking distance, the tour is best for ages 8 and up!

Dress: Flat, close-toed, thick soled shoes are best suited for the tour (it’s like an outdoor hike). Be sure to dress for sun protection in summer.

Founded in 1962, the Museum of the American Railroad is a not-for-profit Texas corporation dedicated to celebrating the heritage and exploring the future of railroads through historic preservation, research, and educational programming.

The museum collects artifacts and archival material from the railroad industry to exhibit and interpret their significance in American life and culture.
