Ground was recently broken for a new warehouse and distribution center in the Central Texas city of Bryan, and it will be fully rail optimized when it opens for business over the next several years.

The facility will house CertainTeed Roofing, a sustainable exterior and interior building products manufacturer. The company, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain Corporation, will be expanding their service and production capabilities in Texas, while equipping the facility with the latest sustainable solutions to decrease their carbon footprint.

“This facility is a great opportunity for our long-time customer, CertainTeed Roofing, to further utilize Union Pacific’s network for their customers,” said Kim Hess, assistant vice president – Energy.

The plant will be one of 15 across North America that will reduce greenhouse gases up to 75% by utilizing rail versus truck. The new facility will allow CertainTeed to shorten the distance their product travels to market.

Union Pacific offers tools for companies looking to expand using rail as their shipping method and has a guide to locate an industrial site or a rail-served building with access. Site Solutions Tool lets users search for rail-served buildings and industrial sites and allows you to view maps, photos and contact information for the nearly 2,100 rail-served properties and more than 4,600 rail-served buildings listed.
