ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) -Texas Central Railway, the company behind the proposed Dallas to Houston 240-mile high-speed rail project, is facing legal action from multiple counties over nearly $850,000 in unpaid property taxes.

Judges in Waller, Grimes, and other counties have filed lawsuits to recover the funds, citing the financial strain on county budgets.

Grimes County Judge Joe Fauth III expressed frustration with the company’s failure to pay taxes, highlighting the potential use of the funds.

“You know when they don’t pay their taxes on time like the rest of the taxpayers it causes a hardship for our citizens and in this situation, it creates a safety situation,” said Fauth. “If we collected that $219,000, that’s more than enough money for us to fund two dispatchers for our 911 emergency center.”
