El Paso $97M streetcar, restoration project nearly complete
El Paso's streetcar No. 1506 is home.
Amid a police escort, the newly refurbished President’s Conference Committee vintage streetcar made its way to the maintenance and storage facility on Santa Fe Street in Downtown at about 10 a.m. Monday.
It took at least a dozen workers and and a special ramp to unload the gleaming green and red car that traveled 3,800 miles on a flatbed truck.
Onlookers were drawn to the gated portion of Father Rahm Avenue that served as the streetcar's first stop before it was carefully rolled onto its track and towed to the nearby maintenance facility.
