The Brazoria-Fort Bend Rail District project consists of a proposed 65-mile stretch of rail line from the Port of Freeport to a proposed logistics facility in Rosenberg. If constructed the rail line could bring millions of dollars in economic activity, thousands of new high paying jobs and other opportunities to the Gulf Coast and Fort Bend county areas, according to local county officials.
Andy Myers, Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner, has been involved with the project from early on. Myers is a member of the Brazoria-Fort Bend Rail District, a group comprised of officials from Brazoria and Fort Bend counties, and has advocated for the rail line as a county commissioner by testifying to the Texas Transportation Commission for funding requests.
Myers testified at the Texas Department of Transportation Jan. 24 hearing in Austin before an additional $600,000 in funding was approved Jan. 25. The funding will be used to conduct an economic planning study on the district to prove its feasibility for a longer, more expensive engineering study, according to Myers.
